Flinders Street could be the site of Melbourne's second safe injecting room. The injection room was originally planned to be near the Queen Victoria Market but later on was changed to be set up on the southern side of Flinders Street. The owner of the Doherty's Gym, Tony Doherty, on Flinders Street slammed the idea. "Its a terrible place for is ... I can't think of a worse spot," he said

The chief executive of the Youth Projects Charity, Ben Vasiliou, stated that there was overwhelming evidence that a safe injection room was needed. He agreed and said having it at the southern end of Flinders Street made sense.

"But no one wants it in their backyard," he told the ABC. Last week, Victorian crossbench MP Fiona Patten advocated safe injecting rooms for St Kilda, Footscray and Dandenong, as well as the proposed site and the current location in North Richmond. The location of the second injection room is still in consultation process by the former police chief commissioner, Ken Lay. But Mr Merlino insists the North Richmond centre is saving lives and other initial problems have improved. https://7news.com.au/lifestyle/health-wellbeing/melbourne-cbd-could-host-injecting-room-c-2859781 https://www.standard.net.au/story/7255520/melbourne-cbd-could-host-injecting-room/ https://au.news.yahoo.com/melbourne-cbd-could-host-injecting-005145191.html https://www.sheppnews.com.au/national-news/2021/05/17/4274625/melbourne-cbd-could-host-injecting-room
